How fires affect LAAMS students

By: Marsela

Everybody has noticed the smoke, fire, and heat from the mountain. Some people think it smells good but, don't think enough that it's hurting their lungs. So if you are healthy, you're usually not at a major risk from smoke. Still, it's a good idea to avoid breathing smoke if you can help it. Smoke is made up of a complex mixture of gases and fine particles produced when wood and other organic matter burn. The biggest health threat from smoke comes from fine particles. These microscopic particles can get into your eyes and respiratory system, where they can cause health problems such as burning eyes, runny nose, and illnesses such as bronchitis. Fine particles also can aggravate chronic heart and lung diseases - and even are linked to premature deaths in people with these conditions. Some of this info. was founded at http://www.airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=smoke.smoke2.
So avoid breathing the smoke around you from the fires going on. Students have been noticing ash so when your in p.e Don't run alot and drink plenty of water.
Also, the heat is irresistible. I hate the heat. When there is a lot of heat theirs always people that their nose starts to bleed. So, if that's one of you go under the shade drink water and some air.
